The BRICS Journal of International Relations and Development is an academic journal aimed at providing a platform for scholars, policymakers, and practitioners to exchange ideas, research and innovation outcomes, policy initiatives and share insights on international relations and other development matters pertaining to BRICS and nations from the Global South.
For many years now, Global South thought, voices, their experiences and development trajectory analysis have been muted in favour of Global North Knowledge Systems. This journal therefore prioritises publishing among others, BRICS and Global South nations’ climate action, cultural exchange and tourism, economic development, economic and political security, entrepreneurship, financial architecture, foreign policy, migration, technology and innovation.
The establishment of the BRICS Journal of International Relations and Development emphasises a significant need within the BRICS Plus and Global South nations and its broader academic community to facilitate discussions among academics, policymakers, and practitioners regarding the challenges faced by the BRICS Plus nations. This journal therefore seeks to tackle key obstacles hindering effective scholarship and policy-making within the BRICS and Global South communities.
Lastly, this journal is an initiative of the BRICS Research Institute at Durban University of Technology. As a result, the BRICS Journal of International Relations and Development serves as a cornerstone of the institute’s mission, emphasising relevance, publication output, scholarly internationalization, and international exposure.

Theme: Policy and Programmatic Responses to Climate Action (SDG13) by the BRICS and Global South Nations
